Lauranne Germond at the Congress of French Nature Reserves

Lauranne Germond, co-founder of COAL, spoke on Wednesday 5 June at the 38th Congress of French Nature Reserves, in Monêtier-les-Bains. She will speak about the links between Culture, Art and Nature at the meeting of the Commission for Education and Awareness of Nature of RNF.

This year’s Congress is about mobilizing for adaptive management in the context of climate change. In other words: “Climate and protected areas : Hot on the heels!!! Adapt or let it happen?”

The morning of June 5 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm will be devoted to the theme of Culture, Art and Nature.

The 38th Congress of the Nature Reserves of France will take place at the Arts and Life Center in Le-Mônetier-les-Bains (Hautes-Alpes/PACA), from June 5 to 8, 2019. Organized in partnership with the Ecrins National Park, manager of 6 nature reserves, it will welcome, as every year, between 300 and 400 participants, from metropolitan France and overseas.

It is part of a context which is the following:
– A strategy to extend the RN network to 2030(2018 conference theme) initiated
– A Biodiversity Plan in which RN and RNF have a role to play and a Climate Plan
A LIFE NaturAdapt 2018 – 2023 project coordinated by RNF alongside 9 partners including 6 reserve managers, which aims to integrate climate change issues into the management of European protected areas.
– A project for a climate sentinel network,

It completes several meetings identified at the national level:

  • 3rd meeting ‘Natural Spaces and Research’: April 17-18, 2019, in Annecy, in partnership with the Foundation for Research on Biodiversity and ASTERS-CEN Haute-Savoie
  • PITYEM Biodiv4alp event, the day before the congress on June 4th
  • LIFE NaturAdapt working seminar from 25 to 28 June 2019 in Banyuls-sur-merThe IUCN World Conservation Congress 2020 in Marseille in perspective: 11-19 June 2020

Locally, a commitment of the actors, in particular with :

The 2019 congress will be more technical than institutional and will give pride of place to the network’s animation tools (Commissions, Poles, Workshops). It will be a place:

  • meeting point for the RN network
  • of valorization
  • of contribution

Finally, the 2019 congress will also reflect RNF’s stated desire to pursue and consolidate inter-network dynamics with a congress of RNs widely open to National Parks and a rapprochement with the CEL and the commissioned agents of this network.
