ÉCLAIRCIES, Le Quai – Forum des Arts Vivants, Angers

Art and climate change – The commitment of the Quai d’Angers
Six emerging or major artists of the French and international scene are gathered in this exhibition around the question of climate change, for a different approach to contemporary environmental issues.
After Window on Earth in May 2007, the exhibition Monsters of the Seas and the Planet’Terre Punctuation in 2008, the exhibition ECLAIRCIES inaugurates the commitment of the Quai – Forum des Arts Vivants, Angers in the international network Imagine 2020. Eleven European cultural institutions*, convinced of the need to get concretely involved in sustainable development, are launching a 5-year joint project aiming at producing and disseminating artists’ works in the face of climate change, encouraging creative exchanges between art and science at a pan-European level, and finally raising public awareness and the desire to act.

Exhibition from June 25 to August 22, 2010

Artists: Angelika Markul, Lucy + Jorge Orta, Henrik Håkansson, HeHe, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Magali Daniaux & Cédric Pigot
Curator: Lauranne Germond – COAL

A title that evokes a temporary improvement, a bright breakthrough in an overcast sky, a flash of lucidity and understanding, a necessary counterpoint to an often dark and complex discourse.
While wishing to question the public, this exhibition privileges a dynamic and non-catastrophic approach and wants to testify to new aesthetic research.
The exhibition will be held in the vast forum of the Quai, a space open to the city, designed as a public square conducive to meeting and exchange. The works, monumental or intimate, mostly produced for the occasion, will resonate with the dimensions of the place.

Curator of the exhibition

The EPCC-Le Quai has entrusted the curatorship of this exhibition to Lauranne Germond, member of the association COAL – “coalition for art and sustainable development”, created in France in 2008 by professionals of contemporary art, sustainable development and research.
