Visit

Brain Space Laboratory

proposes to invest the summer as a time of shared research to explore together the consequences of the Anthropocene*, in this glassed-in space made unbearable by the heat.

How do we get through the upheavals of the world, how do we adapt to them, or rather how do we change our vision of the world?
Can the creative, the sensitive and the imaginary help us to truly renew our perceptions and our outlook?

This summer 2023, the Brain Space Laboratory invites us all – artists, researchers, practitioners and field players, residents, strollers and budding researchers… – to learn how to transform ourselves, so that together we can invent the world to come.

A la fraîche!
From 5pm to 9pm, join us for a drink in the gardens of IAC, transformed for the occasion.

On the program:
Artistic environments, conversations, workshops, meditation, open-air cinema, performances, etc.

Here, COAL presents the ten projects submitted by artists nominated for the 14th COAL Plant Award.

*Constructed from ancient Greek (anthroposhuman being”, and kainos “Anthropocene refers to a new geological epoch, post-Holocene (since the industrial revolution at the end of the 18th century), in which human activity prevails over geophysical forces and ecosystems to the point of jeopardizing the earth’s habitability, for humans and non-humans alike.

IAC’s Brain Space Laboratory

Initiated in 2009 by artist Ann Veronica Janssens and Nathalie Ergino, the Brain Space Laboratory brings together artists and researchers to share their explorations. Initially, the body’s relationship to space through the process of immersion and perceptual experience, then from 2016, in the face of the Anthropocene, around the vital bonds of coexistence that unite living beings. Based on artistic experimentation, he favors intuition as the driving force, shared imagination as the foundation and collective intelligence as the modus operandi.
