On the occasion of the France-Brazil cultural season, from June 6 to August 31, 2025, a photographic trail installed in the Jardin d’Agronomie Tropicale-René Dumont-is bringing together three Brazilian artists from different generations. Each has used his art to denounce the fires that are still ravaging the Amazon rainforest – the world’s largest reservoir of biodiversity. Frans Krajcberg (1921-2017), Sebastião Salgado (b. 1944) and Rodrigo Braga (b. 1976) share the same woundedness, the same revolt, but also the same hope, that of raising awareness and reconnecting Man with Nature.
Since the late 1970s, Frans Krajcberg has witnessed at first hand the arson fires set in the Mato Grosso region of Amazonia. A committed artist, he relentlessly demonstrates the dangers facing the planet. His photographs and burnt wood become a “Cry” that resonates at international meetings, inviting us to react before it’s too late. Sebastião Salgado, for his part, has flown over the Amazon rainforest to reveal, between sky and earth, a landscape populated by life. For him, fires are an “open wound” which he calls on us to address, to help it heal and preserve this amazing ecosystem, essential to our survival. Rodrigo Braga, born in the Amazon, examines the complex and conflicting relationship between Man and the Nature that surrounds him. For years, he has traveled the trails of the Rio Negro (Brazilian Amazon), producing elaborate photographs that reflect his poetic and incisive view of how humans influence and transform this region.
