4th edition of the Franco-Latin American Doctoral Days

CALL FOR PROJECTS: FRENCH-LATIN AMERICAN DOCTORAL DAYS

COAL is a member of the jury for the call for projects of the Franco-Latin American Doctoral Days.
The call is open until July 27!

Organized by the Southern Cone Pole of the Institute of the Americas, the Embassy of France in Uruguay and the Eastern Regional Center (CURE) of the University of the Republic of Uruguay (UDELAR), this 4th edition of the Franco-Latin American Doctoral Days will seek to bring a “multidisciplinary approach to the challenges of the oceans and coastal marine spaces”. It will take place in Uruguay, in Rocha and La Paloma during the last week of October 2022.

The oceans cover 71% of the earth’s surface and constitute a complex ecosystem, which is under pressure today. Similarly, coastal marine areas concentrate a large part of the world’s population, highlighting their fundamental importance but also the impacts in these areas. Uruguay, a country with 660 km of coastline between the Río de la Plata and the Atlantic Ocean, and France, as the country with the second largest exclusive economic zone, share with other Latin American countries a responsibility in this area. The global challenges related to the seas and oceans are multiple for the sciences, which is why the study of the diversity of coastal marine spaces implies an interdisciplinary (or even transdisciplinary) and transnational approach.

These doctoral days aim to address the subject through different thematic axes, in a resolutely socio-environmental perspective, given the role that the oceans have as a climate regulator and biodiversity pole, and because humans are stakeholders of these spaces. The organizers expect proposals in the fields of oceanographic sciences, territorial and political management of coastal marine areas, history and pre-history of the sea and coasts, gender studies, and art and culture, among others.

The objective is to open a space of expression around what is the daily life with the sea and the sensitive experience that it implies. Proposals outside of these thematic areas, still related to oceans and coastal marine areas, will also be considered.

The proposals are expected, in Spanish, by July 27.
