In an age of climate change, mass extinction and growing inequality, we are joining forces in a project based on hope: linking broad perspectives with specific, localized possibilities, those that invite or demand usto ACT.

September 2019 to August 2023

ACT: Art, Climate, Transition appears as the third evolutionary phase ofImagine 2020, which began in 2010 as a cooperation between several arts organizations aimed at raising awareness of climate change in the cultural sector. Faced with the current climate crisis, imagination alone is not enough. ACT is an urgent and timely initiative to address ecology and climate change, deeply rooted in and interwoven with a political economy that promotes inequality and depletion. There can be no sustainable transition without climate justice.

To respond to urgent ecological and social issues, we need to encourage meaningful exchanges at European level, while taking into account the specificities of local contexts. Transnational mobility is a priority, as we take the time to put down roots locally and exchange ideas internationally. We need to redefine our ethical awareness and ecological understanding of the interaction between species, humans and their political and natural environments, through capacity building, training and education.

ACT has been structured around a mobility strategy, strengthening links between local and European contexts. The diversity of its localities reveals the potential for in-depth learning. The initiatives developed enable artists to meet in different places, at different times and in different ways, to stimulate mutual learning. These formats were organized into seven work modules: rooting and circulation, spaces and resources, commissions, co-productions, diary events, communication and learning to make an impact.

ACT has implemented 397 actions and events in the field of contemporary arts, ecology and just transition, including co-productions, exhibitions, festivals, knowledge sharing, performances, publications and participatory projects with local communities. 88% of activities produced new works of art. ACT has engaged with 964 artists and 571 CCPs (cultural and creative professionals) from 63 different countries, contributing to the professional development of the European cultural sector and promoting expertise in the field of arts and ecology.
