Continuing his work on transitional and opportunistic architecture, Laurent Tixador, winner of the COAL Art and Environment Prize 2013, settled in Chamarande for a month to build a bridge on the edge of the Domain, starting from nothing.
This undertaking gives rise to a series of ancestral gestures: picking up the first stone, finding the means to polish it, making an axe out of it, using it to cut down the branch that will be used for the handle and then felling the tree with the axe, all these gestures bear witness to the process of adaptation of man to his environment.
The artist and his team will have only their physical strength, their ingenuity, their enthusiasm, and the materials available in their immediate environment, to establish this production workshop, in the spirit of vernacular architecture.
Day after day, the workshop will become more comfortable, more efficient, more productive, generating a new society, evolving, with the help of the skilful use of available resources, but also of a free way of life.
Come and meet him to discuss his project and discover his recent progress!
It is also the occasion to discover and rediscover the exhibition “Milieux” which continues until September 29th.
Browse the exhibition “Augures d’innocence” by the American artist Brandon Ballengée at the castle, go in search of a dozen works presented in the park by the artists Bruit du Frigo, Gilles Bruni, Christophe Clottes, Olivier Darné, Nicolas Floc’h, Étienne de France, Camille Goujon, Suzanne Husky, Nicolas Milhé, Liliana Motta, Frank Smith and Laurent Tixador, and visit Frank Smith’s “carte blanche” at the Orangerie.
