CREATE, EXCHANGE, INVENT SANS RÉSERVE

Offering a shared space and time for self-expression without reservation at a time when we are running out of reserves on which our current and future lifestyles are based; by new types of creative practices that have emerged from the past. reserves of art; able to question conservationist logics and invent new ways of preserve This is the ambition of SANS RÉSERVE, the new meeting place for creative artists committed to ecology, launched by COAL.

GIVING A VOICE TO ARTISTS COMMITTED TO ECOLOGY

When COAL was founded in 2008, it was not self-evident that art and the environment should be brought together. 15 years later, it is clear that this rapprochement is essential. In 2010, COAL created the COAL Art and Environment Prize to contribute to the emergence of a generation of artists committed to ecology. In 14 editions, the COAL Prize has witnessed and contributed to the emergence of hundreds of artists around the world who use their talent to imagine and experiment with solutions, to make visible and accompany the transformation of territories, lifestyles, organizations and modes of production. Together, they are helping to build a new collective narrative, a new imaginary, a developing common heritage, a positive, optimistic and essential framework for everyone to find the motivation to implement the necessary changes towards a more sustainable and fairer world. SANS RÉSERVE aims to be a mouthpiece for these artists, and a place for reflection and experimentation on the many ways in which ecology can permeate art, and vice versa.

AN EDITION UNDER THE SIGN OF PLANTS

The first edition of SANS RÉSERVE is in line with the theme of the COAL 2023 Prize, dedicated to plants. It invites French and international artists, thinkers, scientists and protectors of nature to sow the seeds of creation and action, to germinate new research and experimentation, to act, to marcotter, to heal, to reiterate, to feel the richness of plants, their balances and dynamics, from seed to chalice, from molecule to ecosystem, so that inventive and resilient plant thinking can flourish in the world to come.

Because “If you don’t plant it, it won’t grow”. This is the teaching of plants, which tame the depths to better grow towards the light, reminding us where to land to better orient ourselves. Swarmed from all sides, they synthesize the blue planet into a green world, the color of hope and renewal, the standard of ecology, the shimmer of a living world, hoping and inspiring a habitable Earth. They are our radical otherness and yet they are everywhere around us and within us. They pass through us and constitute us, metamorphosed in the food we ingest, the air we breathe, our remedies, our goods, but also our thoughts, from the human and social sciences to artistic creation.
