Call for entries: Deniz Villaları – Ecological Crossings

We’re delighted to announce our partnership with the Institut français de Turquie and the Goethe-Institut Türkei in their call for projects for Mediterranean artistic residencies: Deniz Villaları – Ecological Crossings. This unique scheme invites artists to explore, through their creative work, the ecological issues specific to the Mediterranean region, while promoting circulation and exchanges between Turkey and the Mediterranean basin.

The program offers an original framework for artistic exploration, combining stays on land and, depending on the project, at sea. Selected artists will benefit from favorable conditions for research and production, meetings with local cultural players and opportunities for public presentations (exhibitions, performances, discussions, etc.).

The residency is divided into several stages:

  • Preparatory webinars to contextualize the ecological and geopolitical challenges of the Mediterranean.
  • A two-month residency, between September and December 2025, at a partner location in Turkey or elsewhere in the Mediterranean.
  • A public presentation the following year.

Possible host structures include :

  • K2 Urla Breathing Zone (Urla): an artistic oasis in the heart of nature, in Izmir.
  • Maquis Projects (Izmir): a project inspired by Mediterranean ecosystems.
  • Studio MAHAL (Çanakkale): an independent art center with a rich multicultural past.
  • The Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris), the Friche la Belle de Mai (Marseille), and the Camargo Foundation (Cassis).

What the residence includes

  • Reimbursement of round-trip travel expenses.
  • Accommodation at your place of residence.
  • A €2,000 production grant.
  • A living allowance of €2,000.
  • Access to an equipped workspace.
  • On-site artistic and logistical support.
  • Immersion at sea is possible, depending on the project.

Eligible disciplines include visual arts, music, dance, public art, audiovisual, media, journalism, literature, art criticism and curating.

How to apply?

  • A note of intent (2 to 4 pages) specifying the approach, research theme, expectations and desired residency locations (up to two possible choices).
